Relyon is an app-based service that connects you to any security service provider. It is designed to keep you safe and connected at all times to your close people, and gives you a private guard within the app.
When you need help, Relyon can send an emergency alert with your location to your configured emergency contacts and (when connected) to your security provider. When you press the emergency button, it can also place an in-app emergency call.
To make sure the emergency button is available and can complete the flow, you need to:
1. Add at least one valid emergency contact (added as a connection and tagged as emergency, or legacy contact)
2. Enable permissions (see “Permissions” below)
3. complete the onboarding process
Add a connection in the app (via Connections / My People), then open that connection and tag them as an emergency connection. Relyon uses emergency connections to send an emergency SMS and to decide who to call when you trigger an emergency.
Yes. You can add up to 5 emergency contacts (connections tagged as emergency, plus any legacy emergency contacts, within that limit).
Relyon supports voice activation using an on-device keyword model. The phrase is language-based (for example, English uses “Help Me Now”).
Yes. You can turn voice activation on/off from Settings → Voice Activation.
Microphone permission is required for:
* Voice activation (listening for the safety phrase)
* In-app emergency calling (your voice is needed for the call)
Location permission is required so Relyon can:
* Attach your current location to an emergency alert
* Support Connections (location sharing with your connections)
* Support location-based features like place/geofence notifications (when configured)
While Using: location access only when you’re actively using the app.
Always Allow: allows location updates when the app is in the background, which improves reliability for emergency/location features.
Relyon uses motion/activity signals to make background location tracking more efficient: it updates more when you’re moving and less when you’re still. This helps reduce battery use while keeping tracking reliable.
You can still sign in and use parts of the app, but core safety features may not work correctly without required permissions (especially microphone + location/background location + motion/activity).
When you press the emergency button:
1. Relyon shows a countdown so you can cancel if it was accidental.
2. If you don’t cancel, an emergency alert is sent (with your latest location) to your security provider (when connected) and your emergency contacts.
3. A call is executed (to your security provider or emergency contacts).
4. An SMS is sent to all your emergency contacts.
When voice activation detects the safety phrase:
* Relyon sends an emergency alert to the backend (with your latest known location) to your security provider and emergency contacts.
* Relyon does not automatically place the in-app emergency call from voice activation (only the button does that).
Yes. If you cancel during the countdown, the emergency flow does not continue. Once the countdown finishes, the alert is sent and the flow cannot be cancelled.
Yes. When an emergency alert is triggered, Relyon sends an SMS to your configured emergency contacts containing a Google Maps link with your coordinates.
No. The emergency SMS content is standardized (localized by language) to make sure the message always includes critical information (your name + location link).
Relyon needs an internet connection to:
* Send the emergency alert to the backend
* Send emergency SMS through the service
* Place the in-app emergency call (VoIP)
If you don’t have internet access, you should use your phone’s normal calling/SOS features.
Yes. Voice activation and location features can work in the background when your phone is locked, as long as you have valid permissions and haven’t disabled them. Background behavior can vary by OS and device settings (battery restrictions, background refresh, force-closing the app). If you notice reliability issues, see “Troubleshooting”.
No change. Notifications and alerts follow your phone’s ringer/notification settings and may appear silently.
Location Alerts are safety updates delivered to you as notifications and shown in the app’s Alerts screen.Availability of Location Alerts can depend on your plan/subscription and your service/provider configuration.
You can see them in the app’s Alerts screen. Unread alerts and read alerts are shown in separate lists.
Connections (introduced in version 5.6.0) are one-to-one links between you and another person. There is no group functionality—each connection is a separate link.
(Note: The older “Rings” model is deprecated.)
If you’re sharing location with a connection, they may see:
* Your location
* The time your location was last updated
* Your battery level and charging status
If you disable/hide location sharing, connections may not see your live location.
Relyon can send alerts when a person enters or exits a saved place (geofence), if notifications are enabled for that person/place.
Who gets notified depends on the notification settings for that connection and place.
No. Relyon does not store or share your voice data with third parties. Voice activation uses an on-device keyword detection model.
You can delete your account from within the app. Account deletion triggers a backend process that removes your account data.
Delete account: initiated by you in the app; removes your account data.
Disconnect: may be performed by an admin/operator (for example, if you’re managed by an organization). Disconnecting is different from deleting your account.
Relyon uses motion detection to balance safety and battery use. When you’re still, location updates are less frequent; when you’re moving, they’re more frequent. Background location and microphone listening do use some battery, but the motion-based approach helps reduce unnecessary drain.
